Build a Silent PC

Build a Silent Computer step by step, with the latest products and methods available today!

We all know the feeling - you just put together, or purchased an awesome personal computer from the store. It's equipped with the latest and fastest video card, CPU, and hard drive. The sound card rocks, the speakers are LOUD, and it's got a ton of RAM.

Sitting there, enjoying your sweet new PC, you can't help but notice how incredibly LOUD this PC is. The video card is whirring away, trying to keep cool. The CPU is pushed to its limits, and requires pretty hefty cooling. The hard drive is fast, but spinning at 7200 RPM full time, it does nothing but add to the overall noise. Of course there are the several case fans you have going to keep everything cool, not to mention the power supply, which may have 2 or 3 fans itself!

What to do? Does everyone have to deal with this incredible noise while they try to enjoy their fast PC? Aren't there product that can help keep the computer quiet, but maintain its speed?

YES! And that's what we're all about here at BuildSilentPC.com. I am not a reseller, wholesaler, marketer or anything like that. I'm just a long time PC enthusiast; I am particularly into Silent PC's, and just had to put a site up to help the masses :)

Where to start?

The first thing you have to do is look at what is creating all the noise in your PC. Once you get all that worked out, you can go about tackling each part separately, to create an extremely quiet PC.

These are the main culprits in noise creation in most high end PC's:

  • CPU Fan/Cooler
  • Video Card Fan/Cooler
  • Power Supply
  • Enclosure and Case Fans
  • Hard Drive
  • Optical Drives (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, Burner)

Every computer built will have the components above. And in stock form, they will all be contributing their own noise, creating a very loud computer.

In the pages ahead, we'll conquer each of these parts, and tell you what you can do to go about fixing the problems. Feel free to jump around to various sections of the site, or follow our step by step guide, starting with what is usually the loudest component in an entire PC, the CPU Fan/Cooler.
